Dacorum’s Den

Dacorum Council and Hemel Hempstead’s MP Mike Penning joined forces with local companies to create Dacorum’s Den to support start-ups and businesses wanting to expand which is run on the same lines as the BBC programme Dragon’s Den. Abodebed has been been involved for two consecutive years, with our MD taking part on the panel as a dragon and helping to invest £50,000 to support local businesses.

Connect Dacorum

We have been an active member of Connect Dacorum for more than five years. The organisation runs networking meetings four times a year to encourage local businesses to work together. It also brokers partnerships between local businesses and the community and supports companies with their CSR strategies. In 2016, we co-sponsored Connect Dacorum’s 10th Anniversary Dinner which was held at the House of Commons, jointly hosted by local MPs Mike Penning and David Gauke.

Hemel Business Ambassadors

We think Hemel Hempstead is a great place to do business in, and Hemel Business Ambassadors is a very interesting initiative which encourages and supports business. Its primary role is to “Promote Hemel Hempstead and the surrounding areas, strengthen the reputation of the area as the prime choice for business, attract key people to work and live in the area, create new jobs, attract top talent and persuade investors and developers to see the area as the perfect place to invest.” 

The Hospice of St Francis

We are a Gold Sponsor of the Hospice of St Francis which provides care for people with life-limiting illnesses in the West Herts and South Bucks area. By making a monthly contribution, we’re not only supporting a very worthy cause, we are part of their Corporate Partner Network. The Hospice run regular networking events for their partners as a thank you for their support and fundraising activities.

DENS (Action Against Homelessness)

DENS provides help and support for the homeless and those who are at risk of homelessness. When we recently equipped all our apartments with Hypnos Beds, we donated a lot of good quality beds to the charity. From time to time we also donate a lot of consumables for the people who use DENS, such as personal hygiene products, toilet rolls etc - it’s not glamorous but it is essential. 

We were also pleased to have been able to help out a family who, through no fault of their own, were in need of emergency accommodation. As luck would have it, when DENS came to us for help, one of our apartments was unoccupied and we were happy to let they have it free of charge for a few days whilst alternative arrangements were made.
